We have been building websites and website templates since 2003 and in that time have gained a vast amount of experience and knowledge. This FAQ page will answer many of the frequently asked questions we were asked along the way. If you don't see the answer to your question, send us a message.
Websites today are a mix of technology. Here are items you'll need to have a website:
A domain name - This is usually YourBusinessName.com. There are numerous places you can buy domain names and we can help you figure out a great domain name and tell you several places you can buy one (or more). In general, we do not purchase domain names for our clients since we want you to maintain control over your domain name. It is a good idea to keep your domain name and web hosting services with separate providers.
Web hosting - This is the server where your website lives on the Internet. We do provide hosting or you can find your own hosting. We can provide recommendations for good web hosting. Keep in mind that inexpensive, all-inclusive hosting on shared servers often presents a variety of issues including increased spam, decreased security, and slow site loading.
SSL - If you are collecting any information through your website, it is a good practice to make sure your website has an SSL certificate in place.
Email hosting - Many web hosts include email accounts with the hosting packages. We prefer to separate email from web hosting. Dedicated email hosting will be more reliable and guaranteed you will have less incoming spam than if you rely on the "free" email accounts included with web hosting. We provide several email hosting solutions that start as low as $2/user/month.
The cost of a website can vary depending on various factors, just like the cost of a car or house may vary. Our website projects generally start in the $2,500 range for basic business sites and range upward depending on your unique business needs and goals.
We prefer to work with small businesses who recognize that their website is an important marketing initiative and are willing to invest accordingly to get results.
The time it takes to produce a website depends on a variety of factors such as:
- The size of your site.
- The complexity of your site. For example, e-commerce sites generally take longer to complete.
- The quality of your content that you have ready.
A basic website typically takes around 4 weeks from beginning to end.
We can help you write your content if it is included in your website project. We can also put you in contact with other copywriters who specialize in writing for the Web. Either way, your content needs to be delivered BEFORE we start building your site, so plan ahead.
Yes it will. All the websites we design are responsive designs that are optimized for mobile devices.
Yes we can develop e-commerce|online store|membership websites. E-commerce websites generally cost more than a basic business site and START around $5,000 and depend on your requirements, number of products, product variations, shipping requirements, and so forth.
A Content Management System (CMS) is online software that a website is built with that allows you to maintain the pages of your website yourself, without the need for any technical skills. A CMS allows you to edit and add pages, images, products or blog entries to your website. No additional software is required – all you need is a web browser and an Internet connection. We work with two popular open source CMSs, WordPress and Joomla.
We believe a website is not a onetime effort. Websites that are built using CMS software must be maintained and properly secured. Hackers do not care if you are a small business. If you are on the Internet, you should be willing to invest in your website and keep it up to date. New threats or vulnerabilities are discovered often. A website care plan means that we will do our best to keep your site up to date, scan for security, and try to keep the hackers out. Out of date CMS websites and weak security are the most common ways that hackers can harm your site and your reputation.
